Hi! We’re Theatre of Peace Youth Anti-Bullying Acting Troupe – also known as TOP. We’re part of San Diego nonprofit Act Like You Matter.

Pre-COVID:

Pre-COVID, we ran student-led, solution-driven, anti-bullying assemblies at K-12 schools in San Diego and Los Angeles. We performed scenes that demonstrated tools students can use to overcome and combat bullying, build resilience, and stand up for themselves and others.

Now:

We can’t wait to be back working with students in person at their schools, but schools aren’t quite ready for that yet, and we totally understand.

Until they are, we need new ways of continuing to connect and be a resource for kids and teens where we can share experiences and resources, then brainstorm about solutions so that no one feels alone in what they’re experiencing.

So, we got this great idea, and for Giving Tuesday and our 2022 year-end fundraiser, we’re asking for your help to bring it to life!

What’s Next: Offering Free Virtual Programs:

We’re raising funds to help us run our programs virtually and on the weekends so that kids and teens can participate from home and not have to wait for their schools to bring us to campus (or for us to expand outside of Southern California!) The programs will be free – that’s where you come in! We’ll also record them and make them available – again, for free – on our website and YouTube channel for anyone who can’t attend or who might want to watch again.

Each program will be for a specific age group:

  • Kindergarten through 2nd or 3rd grade
  • Older Elementary
  • Middle School
  • High School

We’ll probably need to host several different programs for Older Elementary, Middle Schools, and High Schools, because we have so many different bullying scenarios and solutions that we can’t possibly present all of them in one program.

What Your Donation Dollars Will Fund:

We’ll use your donation dollars to do the following things for each virtual program:

  1. Rent a space that has great Wi-Fi and sound proofing
  2. Rehearse until we’re ready to perform
  3. Promote the program so students know when and how to join
  4. Meet at the space on the day of the program, live stream it, and film it. Later, we’ll offer the video free on our website and YouTube channel
  5. Take questions in the chat box during the program

After the program, our Director will read out some of the questions, and we’ll answer them, just like we do when we’re in person at schools.

About Our Director:

Speaking of our Director, we’re led by an adult named Amy Jones Anichini. Ms. Amy is:

  • A bullying intervention and prevention specialist
  • A youth empowerment mentor
  • A bullying resilience coach
  • A trusted adult for each member of TOP

So, we’re not just making up the strategies we teach!
