Youth Anti-Bullying Acting Troupe & Empowerment Advocates
Call for New Members: Ages 11-20
About Us:
TOP, a division of 501(c)(3) nonprofit Act Like You Matter, runs student-led, solution-driven, anti-bullying assemblies at K-12 schools in San Diego County and LA County. We perform scenes that demonstrate tools students can use to overcome/combat bullying and build resilience. The ideal candidate for TOP is someone who wants to make a difference in the lives of their peers and change the world for the better. To learn more about us, visit ActLikeYouMatter.org
We’re Reinventing Ourselves for 2023!
For the first time, we’re adding BOTH new actors AND non-actors; non-actors can be based outside of San Diego County! We’re seeking additional:
- San Diego County-Based Actors to perform at schools with us AND
- Youth Empowerment Advocates to help us expand our online presence. Note: Youth Empowerment Advocates do not need to have acting experience and do not need to live in San Diego County!
New members will be working on various projects with us, including: (a) Performing at schools (actors only); (b) Creating resource videos and putting them out on YouTube and our social media channels – see TOP Talks: Trusted Adults for an example; (c) Running virtual programs; (d) Holding virtual Q&A sessions and creating new content on a variety of topics relevant to your generation; (e) Amping up our presence on social media as youth empowerment/resilience/antibullying advocates; (f) Creating and running our presence on Discord.
Submission Requirements:
- Seeking students of any gender: ages 11 – 20
- Personal experience with bullying, microaggression, racism, discrimination, or intolerance of any kind is of value
- Willingness to work together as a team and value all members of the troupe
- Able to attend at least 1 rehearsal per month either:
- In person (4S Ranch 92127) OR
- Via Zoom
How To Submit:
PLEASE CREATE A VIDEO (not fancy – just shoot it on your phone!) INCLUDING THESE THINGS:
- Tell us your name, age, grade, and what city & state you live in
- Talk to us about you. Feel free to share anything you want about yourself.
- Tell us about your experience with being a member of a team
- Tell us why you want to join the Troupe and what you hope to contribute
- Most importantly, please be yourself! We are a diverse team made up of unique individuals. We want to see the real YOU in the video 🙂
- If you have a resume, please include it in your email submission
- If you’re submitting as an actor, in addition to being an empowerment advocate, please also:
- Provide a headshot and artistic resume
- Perform a 1-2 minute dramatic monologue: either previously published or original work

- We sometimes cast directly from a submission without a callback.
- If you don’t meet the submission requirements outlined above, you will very likely not hear back from us.
