Baffle Away Bullying is the interactive stage play adaptation of the empowering children’s book Baffle That Bully! In our anti-bullying assemblies for K-3rd in San Diego, LA, and all locations in between, the 3rd grade classroom of characters from and based on the book come to life on stage at your school to teach your students how to overcome and move past the mean things other kids say and do.

About Baffle Away Bullying!
Has anyone ever been mean to you? Laughed at you? Excluded you? Well, you’re not alone, and there’s a lot you can do about it! Meet Scarlett, Brandon, and Caroline. These clever 3rd graders discovered something empowering: if you turn your encounters with kids who bully into a game, they’ll decide for themselves to leave you alone. Now, Scarlett, Brandon, and Caroline want to teach you how to play the game of Baffle Away Bullying! – 3 simple steps to follow anytime someone mistreats you (or anyone else!) They’ll teach you how to:
- Stomach breathe to remain calm and manage emotions
- Focus on what makes you happy instead of the negative things happening around you
- Interact in ways that deflect bullying, meanness, and rudeness
6 age-appropriate bullying scenarios (including name calling, exclusion, and mimicking), humor, and lots of audience participation are woven throughout this dramedy, delivering a serious topic in a fun and engaging way. Audiences will jump up, shout, and shake it out while learning life skills. Watch for hilarious “freeze” poses as the characters consider their options for baffling while they’re being bullied. But, will the strategies they share be compelling enough to get Robert, one of the toughest kids in class, to realize he can change his behavior? Designed to reinforce character ed and SEL curriculum already in place at schools or to stand alone, introducing themes of empathy, kindness, resilience, and breathing techniques to help manage emotions. Includes “My Game Plan for Playing Baffle Away Bullying!” handout to help students master the steps, make the tools their own, and spark important classroom discussions.

It’s long! We want to share as much detail as possible with the hope that you’ll see the potential benefits for your student(s).
All characters are played by student actors from Theatre of Peace: Youth Anti-Bullying Actors & Empowerment Advocates. We travel to YOUR elementary school in San Diego County and can also deliver the program via live stream into your auditorium or classrooms. That way, when Theatre of Peace portrays the characters, your students will feel as if they meeting new friends at school. The experience is fun, friendly, and empowering!
Details About the 6 Age-Appropriate Bullying Scenarios
Taunting Scene
Robert taunts Scarlett by following her around and teasing her relentlessly. Scarlett follows the 3-step strategy of Baffle Away Bullying and calmly compliments Robert on his shirt. Robert walks off in confusion.
Exclusion Scene
Olivia and Samantha won’t let Caroline play with them anymore. Later, Scarlett demonstrates how you can play Baffle Away Bullying when someone else is the target of bullying. Scarlett validates Caroline in front of Samantha and Olivia, and they walk off together happily. Samantha and Olivia are baffled!
Name Calling Scene
Amber calls Caroline names (such as stupid and baby) when she thinks the teacher won’t notice. Caroline demonstrates the powerful technique of Stomach Breathing to help her stay calm. Then, she focuses on her book and laughs out loud as if it’s the funniest thing she’s ever read. She shows Amber how little her insults matter.
Mimicking Scene
Jack bullies Brandon by mimicking everything he says. One day, Brandon follows the 3-step strategy of Baffle Away Bullying and overwhelms Jack with random (but kind!) chatter.
Intimidation Scene
Jack and Robert intimidate Brandon by picking on him constantly, making fun of him, and calling him weird. Brandon halts the bullying by asking Jack how his baseball team is doing. He also demonstrates the power of saying, “Thank you!” when someone says you’re weird.
Isolation Scene
Robert and Jack tell Scarlett that no one cares about her. They do everything they can to make her feel helpless and alone. Scarlett uses the 3-step strategy to calm herself down and focus on what makes her happy. Then, she takes away the boys’ power by picturing them in their jammies! She laughs out loud and completely baffles Jack and Robert. Guess what happens next? They decide to leave her alone.
